Have you ever wondered what a celebrity spokesperson could do to your business? A celebrity spokesperson is a celebrity who can connect with the target audience and endorse the product or service. Forbes reported the logic behind having a celebrity spokesperson is to:

1.       Position the product or service as a premium brand

a. When people see celebrities using products it makes them think higher of those     products. Its assumed that celebrities only use the best of the best.

2.       Attract new customers

a. A celebrity spokes person can greatly increase the reach of an ad or promotion. Not only will people that follow your brand see the celebrity, but people that follow the celebrity will also see the brand.

3.       Build awareness

a. When a celebrity endorses a product or service it brings that product or service into the public light and builds awareness of the brand.

There are a few things to keep in mind when looking for a celebrity to endorse your brand. First and foremost the celebrity you choose must genuinely like and use whatever product or service you provide. Say you're Pepsi and you hire a celebrity spokesperson and they're seen drinking Coke. Not only is that bad for you but it helps your competition. It's a double whammy.

Look into the background of the celebrities that your brand is considering to represent you. Do they have a bad record? You don't want your brand to be seen as condoning illegal activity. That being said not all arrest history is necessarily bad. For example it wouldn't be an issue for PETA to hire a celebrity who had previously been arrested for protesting for animal rights.

Make sure that your spokesperson's values align with those of the brand. When you have a celebrity endorse your brand, the audience will subconsciously draw connections between that celebrity and your brand. It is vital that those connections both be positive and accurate. Having similar values to the spokesperson will also result in a better relationship with them, and higher quality genuine promotion.
