Social media originated for the purpose of social interaction between friends and family, but overtime has taken on a new role in the business world. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and more have opened new doors in advertising that can be extremely beneficial to brands, companies, and advertisers alike. Social media campaigns are now viewed as an essential aspect to a brand’s success.

Today we will be highlighting some tips to keep in mind when creating a social media campaign or for your personal social media presence.

One important aspect is to humanize the brand posts in a social media campaign. Using language of social media is essential to creating a relationship with a brand’s users and customers. You do not want to come off as a cheap salesman or a robot. Any corporate speech should be left out. You want to possess a familiar and neighborly tone in your posts. The brand can then be viewed as a more friendly relationship rather than just a business one.

Something that may be obvious, but should not be overlooked, is posting a variety of media: text photos, gifs, videos, etc. Photos and videos are more engaging and acquire more eyes than a post with only text. The overall visual theme needs to be cohesive. The font style, voice, and colors need to be consistent. Also, it's recommended to restrain yourself from over-posting. It is more effective to create a few posts throughout the week or even the month to maintain a strong following. Setting a post schedule is an efficient strategy to maintain a consistent post interval.

Customer feedback is essential to a brand’s success too. Therefore, negative comments and suggestions need to be acknowledged and addressed via social media. A brand must be the first to respond during a crisis or misstep. If left unattended, many fans and customers will be lost in addition to its social media presence.

The most important tip involves interactivity and engagement. The most successful campaigns will involve fans in conversation with the brand. A post should encourage fans to click, "comment", “like,” “share,” “tweet,” or any other form of social network interaction. Every campaign’s success is measured by audience engagement.
